What do you find most rewarding about your role?
My biggest thrill is improving marriages and helping families thrive. The times of highest personal satisfaction were when I was able to help a husband and wife come together and find new peace of mind in an area of prior anxiety.
How did you choose your career path?
I know God has been at the helm and guided me at each step so that I can serve in the way He needs. He has taken me on a journey over the years to build a talent stack that includes business management, finance, taxes, coaching, training and project management. I’m still discovering why He has taken me on that path and am just happy to serve.
In your own words, what is your job description?
My calling is to improve marriages and strengthen families. I try my best to do that for clients, employees, partners and anyone else God brings (which can include an occasional random person in public).
Practice Areas or Focus Areas:
My current focus is to do my job by leading families to implement systems and strategies to manage taxes. I support other advisors in their practices too.
What is your hidden talent or something unique about you?
I am a technology nerd. I try to hide it so please don’t tell anyone. I’m also a tax nerd but I let that come out.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I have lots of hobbies. I tend to enjoy learning a new skill, develop it to a level where I am satisfied and then move on to the next thing. My wife measures my mental health by the number of hobbies I have active at any given moment. My hobbies as of right now include sailing, make custard-based desserts (including crème brulé, pot de crème, cheesecake and flan), bio-hack my body, Pilates and I recently bought a drone and a self-driving car. I read or listen to about one book per week.
Where did you grow up or go to school?
I grew up in a small rural community in Ohio sandwiched between suburbia and Amish country. I went to The Ohio State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
About my family
Monica and I were married in 1999. I married up at least 2 levels. We have 4 children (3 biological and 1 that married in) that we love and with whom we enjoy spending time. Our children are important to us and raising three responsible, loving, faith-filled people is likely our greatest legacy and contribution to the world.
